Synnøve Løvold Olimb

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Synnøve Løvold Olimb on Sunday, December 1, 2024. She was everything to us & her loss truly breaks our hearts. Synnove lived a long life, celebrating her 91st birthday this past November 18th. She leaves behind a son, Jon Olimb, and a daughter, Anne Kristin Olimb, and countless other relatives in Norway, Canada & Sweden. Born in Norway, she came to the U.S. in 1968, joining her parents (Berte Helene & John Arthur) who had emigrated to Canada in the ’50s, the U S. in the ’60s, and then retired to Norway in the late ’70s. For many years Synnove worked in the Insurance industry, but her love of Norway shone through in her dedication to the preservation of all things Norway & Norwegian. This included everything from the language, daily meals & traditions to the participation in local craft shows, including the Annual 17 Mai Festival every May at Hodges Park, in Park Ridge, IL., where she was very well-known & respected among both the other participants & attendees alike. Synnove’s talent for knitting & creating authentic Norwegian selbuvåtter (mittens), strikkejakker (sweaters), strikkesokker (socks), sameluer (Sami hats), as well as sewing complete, authentic norske bunader (Norwegian national costumes) was truly amazing, but not surprising since she first began knitting in Norway at the tender age of 3!! Our hearts are broken that she has had to leave us and we’ll never be the same again. Thank you to all our wonderful family & friends who have & continue to be as supportive as you’ve been during this very difficult time. There will be no viewing, as Mamma was cremated and will be returning to her native Norway in the future to be buried next to or near her parents in Southern Norway.
