Jose Antonio “Toni” Ramos Crespo

73, of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in the countryside hills of Barrio Espino, San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico to parents Modesto and Antonia Ramos on August 10, 1948. Jose went to school in the San Lorenzo District and was a member of the Sagrado Corazon Y Los Doce Apostoles in Puerto Rico. Jose also at a very young age worked in his parents’ farm learning valuable lessons about work, survival and harvesting what you plant. He carried those learnings as a badge of honor. Jose migrated to the states at the young age of 17 to make a better life for himself and his future family. Jose was raised with 14 siblings and helped many of them migrate and transition into the United States, welcoming many of them into his home until they settled and assimilated with the new culture and language. He worked at International Paper Company for 30+ years partnering with many of his brothers and family members. Jose retired in his early 50’s and moved back to Puerto Rico, built his dream home along with a gentleman’s farm that included chickens, roosters, sheep, cows, goats and harvested all sorts of vegetables and fruits. Jose loved to grow beautiful gardens and took pride in caring for it. Jose loved Jibaro Folkloric music from Puerto Rico and dabbled and sang along to it with his cuatro or guitar, a true and quintessential Jibarito. Jose was also a profound loyalist and a Godly servant who gave unselfishly to his family and friends. He was a kind and loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was always filled with laughter and joy and most importantly loved the Lord. He taught his children the fear and love of the Lord, humility, being kind and loving and never stop learning.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased in death by a brother Enrique Ramos and a son Jose Enrique Ramos. Jose is survived by his son Eddy Ramos and his wife Katherine of Elgin, IL, daughter Daisy Erdmann and her husband Eric of Schaumburg, IL; six grandchildren Marina A. Ramos, Eddy N. Ramos, Jacob R. Ramos, Anaeli G. Ramos, Gianna F. Ramos, and Lucas E. T. Ramos.

A service of remembrance will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday July 16, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church 819 N 16th Ave, Melrose Park, IL 60160. The celebration will be held at Revive Church at 1:00 pm 10040 W Grand Ave, Franklin Park, IL 60131. Burial will be held in El Remanso Memorial Park.
