It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gaili Antonczyk, 63 of Palatine, Illinois on August 2nd, 2025. Gaili was born on September 3rd, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois to Elisabeth and Heinrich Haegerich. She grew up in the Lakeview Chicago area, then as an adult moved to the northwest suburbs. Gaili loved her 12-year career at AT&T as well as her 29-year career as a Title Closer for PNTN. In addition to her full-time career, Gaili was a Real Estate Appraiser and Jeweler for Park Lane. Gaili absolutely loved being a jewelry lady with the many friendships and fun she had along the way. She definitely had a gift as a stylist for both jewelry and fashion. Gaili also had a knack for interior design which carried through to her outdoor oasis where she loved to sip her wine and relax by her pond.

Gaili was an avid runner who ran many marathons including Boston’s. One of Gaili’s annual highlights was going to Sarasota, Florida with her best friend, Lynda who have been friends for 44 years. As a Chicagoan, she was passionate about “my” Bulls, never missing a game and a Cubs fan as well.

Gaili loved her niece Sarah and her great nieces Evelyn and Alyra as she often compared the sister relationship she had with her sister Moni.

She is survived by her mother Elisabeth Hagerich, who she referred to as mommy and loved dearly, her sister Monika Shaffer, niece Sarah Cook (husband Kaleb Cook) great nieces, Evelyn Cook, Alyra Cook, Hank Haegerich (step brother), Helen Haegerich (step sister-in-law), nieces Tamara Haegerich, Heidi Boring and cousin Marianne.

She was preceded in death by her Papa Heinrich Haegerich and brother-in-law Kevin Shaffer.

Gaili will be remembered as a fun loving, kind woman. She adored her dogs as they were like family to her. She had a heart of gold and always let others know how happy she was to be around them. She made people laugh and her ability to light up a room was contagious.

Her favorite saying was “God loves me” as she smiled and went on to tell her God story.

She will be forever missed but not forgotten.

Clifford Thomas Frasch, 82, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, passed away in Barrington, Illinois on Sunday, August 3, 2025.Cliff was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1942 to Clifford M. and Roselyn Virginia Frasch. He was a 1960 graduate of Central Scranton High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Penn State University before going to work for IBM in 1967.Cliff was passionate about his role as an IBM Systems Engineer, working over the years in Scranton, Poughkeepsie, NY, and Harrisburg, PA, where he met many lifetime friends.  Cliff’s friends considered him to be their “consumer advocate”, as he loved doing research and provided them with information and advice on buying gadgets, appliances, cars, and golf equipment. In Harrisburg Cliff met his wife, Carla E. Triemer, and he took early retirement from IBM as a Senior Systems Engineer in 1992 when they married in Danville, California. They had their first home together in Clayton, CA, moved to Goldens Bridge, NY in 1996, and finally to Hoffman Estates in 1998. They often spent time in New Smyrna Beach, FL, where Cliff’s parents and several of his cousins had lived.  Everyone who knew Cliff knew how much he loved playing golf. He started playing with his father as a young child in Scranton and continued to play throughout his life. He played competitively in amateur tournaments and won several trophies.  He also loved music, cars, motorcycles and dogs. He had a soft spot for his furry friends, treating each of them like the valuable family member they were. He enjoyed both obedience and agility training with the dogs.  Cliff’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and cousins. He is survived by his wife, his sister-in-law Paula Tygielski, and his nephews, Timothy and Stanley.  In accordance with his wishes there will be no formal funeral service, and his ashes will be spread in a place near and dear to him. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial donations to a local animal shelter.

Thomas Sebastian Rivera, Sr, 91, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend died after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. 

Tom was born on June 9, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois.  Throughout his life, he was much loved and respected for his dedication to family, friends and community. 

Tom began his career as a proud member of the Illinois National Guard. After attending Loyola University and finishing his B.A. at Roosevelt University, Tom became a sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune. He subsequently was offered the Vice Presidency of Public Relations and Marketing Director for Madison Square Garden and Arlington Park Racetrack.

In 1981, as one of the founding members of the first Arlington Million Race, Tom considered this achievement as one of his proudest successes. During his 18 racing years, he made life-long, treasured friendships.

1982 was the year Tom, with his wife Kathleen (Kathy) Rivera, founded the multiple award winning KRT Productions, serving corporations and education companies across the United States, Europe, South America and Asia. Tom’s notable business career includes multiple industry awards in addition to an Emmy and Telly award for achievement in writing, producing, and marketing for the History Channel, CBS, NBC, ABC, WGN, Nickelodeon, ESPN and PBS networks. 

It was in 1983; Tom accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Greater Woodfield Convention Bureau. For the next 26 years, he built and influenced the bureau’s continuing successes, including his statewide Presidency and consulting roles for the Illinois Tourism Industry. In 2019, the Illinois Department of Tourism awarded Tom its inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award presented to him by Governor J.B. Pritzker. 

For 18 years, in between his Racing, Television and Tourism careers, Tom volunteered on the St. Alexius Hospital Board. After validating his leadership, influences and expertise, he was voted as Chairman of the Alexian Hospital Network Board, servicing in this role for more than five years. 

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth (Lawless) Rivera and Sebastian Rivera, his brother James Rivera and first wife Mary Ann (Sheridan) Rivera. Nan was much loved by Tom and Kathy, and the cherished mother of Tom’s children Margaret (Mike) Wade, Cecelia (Scott) Horan, Thomas Richard Rivera and Peter (Heather) Rivera.  

Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years Kathleen (Kimotek) Rivera and son, John Thomas Rivera, his loving sister, Elizabeth (Rivera) Winberg, his cherished grandchildren Katie, (Kyle), Tom, Nels and Nicholas, great grandchildren Gavin and Parker, along with a number of remarkable nieces and nephews.

Tom was truly beloved by all who knew him. 

Harold Eugene Rodgers, 67, known by everyone who loved him as Gene, passed away on August 1st, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Huntington's Disease. Born March 6th, 1958 in Terre Haute, IN. He lived most of his life in Rockford, IL. Gene served his country in the Air Force and was a Master Machinist for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and watching the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Gene will be deeply missed by his son Jacob and his daughters Aimee (Kevin) and Karla (Ryan), his grandchildren Darren, Kaleigh, Makenna, Maryssa, Brenden, Bryanna and Brytnee. His sisters Diane (Dennis), Laura (Merle), Lisa and his brother Larry (Tina). Gene is proceeded in death by his parents Larry and Kathy and his brother Tony.

James Micheal Jones “Mike Jones”, 68 of Des Plaines, IL passed away July 19, 2025, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge surrounded by family. He was born February 21, 1957, in Greenville, South Carolina. 

James was the beloved son of the late Mattie Dean and the late Lyman James. After

moving to Evanston IL, James joined the second Baptist church at an early age. He

received his formal education in the Evanston district 65 public school system.

James was self-employed, he was a carpet installer for several years.

James leaves to cherish his memory: His sisters Diane, Deloris Jones, Cassandra

Cozart and Patti Jones. His brother Terry J Jones Sr.(Christina), his nephews Will Jones

(Karla), Leroy Cozart (Tina), Terry Jones Jr (Shannon), Jarrett Jones, Maurice Jones

(Jasmine) Jerome Jones (Kathy, Jonathan Jones (Lauren), his nieces Tea Jones,

Moniqueka, Latasha, Tiffany and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Jones, his brothers Charles Jones,

William Jones, his nephews Carl Jones, Darius Jones, Tyrone Cozart and Donta Cozart.

James loved all Chicago sports teams. He was a die-hard CUBS fan. He enjoyed them all.

William Robert Nealis, 82 of Libertyville, IL passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2025 surrounded by family after a valiantly fought battle with cancer. Born January 24th, 1943 to Elenore and Hubert Nealis of Evergreen Park, IL. The Nealis family moved to Des Plaines, IL where William attended high school and met his lifelong best friend, Ed Bromberg. Bill & Ed shared adventures for over 66 years. William enjoyed spending time with his family, his dogs, gardening, and attending car shows.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elenore and Hubert, his brothers Hubert jr and Alan, and his son William jr. Survived by his wife of 52 years Patricia, son Kevin (Erin), daughters Melissa (Joseph), Kathleen (Tom) and Julie. Grandchildren Lee, Jessica, Jacqulyne, William Dustin, Logan, Sean, Jennifer, Daniel, Joseph, Johnathan, Carlene and 24 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held privately for family only at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is planning to have a commemorative trail-side bench dedicated in his name at Old School Forest Preserve where William loved walking his dogs and spending time in nature. If you would like to contribute in his memory, please reach out to Kevin Nealis.

Nicholas Bryan O'Kray, 64 resident of Villa Park, passed away on July13.

Beloved son of the late Allie and Barbara O'Kray, Nicholas was father to Courtney O'Kray (Ronnie Chavez), McKenna O'Kray (Dan Launhardt), and the late Dylan O'Kray. He is also survived by his grandchildren, McClane and Riggs Launhardt.

He was the brother of Vincent O'Kray and Erin (Brian) Bennett, and the late Phillip O'Kray. His nieces and nephews include Vincent's children, Rory O'Kray, Taylor O'Kray (Tony Albanese), and Carly O'Kray; Erin's children, Brian Bennett Jr. (and his child, Corey Bennett) and Katie Bennett (Jason Mardock, and their child, Oliver Mardock); and Phillip's son, Brandon O'Kray. He is further survived by his aunt and many cousins.

Nicholas always loved a project and pursued various hobbies over the years, from woodworking to stained glass. He also had a lifelong fascination with electronics and computers. A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), he spent his career as a union electrician. His electrical work, always textbook quality, was a testament to his meticulous nature. His children will fondly remember "Lake DANCAF" (Dad Ain’t Never Caught a Fish), the nickname given to a fishing spot where, despite his best efforts, he never quite reeled one in, as well as his invented "money game," a signature family tradition in which they always managed to win.

Nicholas will be deeply missed by his family and friends. No services will be held.

Sheila Brygider (née Banks), born on November 24, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in her hometown of Chicago. She was 83 years old.

Sheila was the beloved daughter of the late Benjamin and Virginia Banks. She grew up in Chicago alongside her siblings and remained deeply connected to her roots throughout her life. Sheila was predeceased by her brother, Theodore Banks, and mourned the loss of her great-niece, Catherine Ingram. She leaves behind a devoted family who will cherish her memory: her sister Catherine Ingram; her niece Virginia Pacholick; her nephew Mirel Ingram; three great-nieces; two great-great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew. Sheila’s presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.   May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.

Kevin Andrew Shaffer March 24th, 1957 – May 9th, 2025 

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kevin Andrew Shaffer, age 68, of Spring Grove, Illinois who passed away on May 9th, 2025. 

Kevin was born on March 24th, 1957 in Murphysboro, Illinois to Nora Shaffer and Stanley Shaffer Sr. He grew up in both Southern and Northern Illinois and graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science. Upon graduation he was a funeral director in Chicago for 13 years. 

He married Monika Shaffer in 1985, and they shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. In 1987, they moved to Southern Illinois and ran a country store in Hardin County, where they shared some of the happiest times and made lasting memories together. 

In 1989, they were blessed with the gift of a daughter named Sarah, the joy of their life. She was often called “little Kevin Shaffer.” 

While owning the business he worked as a counselor at Job Corp followed by holding a position as a Correctional Officer in Juvenile Justice. After the sale of the business, Kevin and Monika moved into their dream home at the Lake of Egypt. They shared their love of boating and enjoyed the peace that the waterfront provided. 

Recently, he worked as a transportation specialist for youth with disabilities. 

After fulfilling their time in Southern Illinois, they moved back to Northern Illinois to be with Monika’s family. They were once again able to live in a beautiful waterfront home. 

Kevin was known for making jokes, working on old cars, and listening to Rock N Roll music. He took great joy in watching his daughter live a full life with her husband and their daughters. He was a master at his craft of car restoration and preserving the car’s history and story. He was a generous and sincere man to all he met. He is survived by Monika Shaffer (wife), Sarah Cook (daughter), Kaleb Cook (son in law), Evelyn Cook (granddaughter), Alyra Cook (granddaughter), Bruce Shaffer (brother), Karen Bruce (sister), Steve Bruce (brother in law), Mike Shaffer (brother), Rose Shaffer (sister in law), Lisa Shaffer (sister), Elisabeth Haegerich (mother in law), Gaili Antonzcyk (sister in law), Hank Haegerich (brother in law), Helen Haegerich (sister in law), and numerous nieces and nephews. He and was preceded in death by Tom Shaffer (brother), Stanley Shaffer (brother), Nora Shaffer (mother), Stanley Shaffer Sr. (father), and Heinrich Haegerich (father in law) 

A celebration of Kevin’s life for close relatives will be held in Hardin County, Illinois in the following months.

David Andrew Nichols, 64 (9/17/1960-05/07/2025) died peacefully after being a medical miracle. He lived a full ten years after doctors gave him only one year (02/2015).He is survived by his brother, Shawn Michael Nichols (Lawrence), his stepdaughter Dawn Gaines (Dave) and his grandchildren Kyle and Karli (goddaughter).He is predeceased by his parents, Carol Willis Nichols and John Andrew Nichols, and his stepsister, Theodora Vombrack Kaczmarek. Dave survived the last ten years through loving support from his immediate family, wonderful, loyal and patient friends, and co-workers at Aircraft Propeller. He was very grateful though may not have expressed it well. Dave’s wishes were that you remember him as he was, as he wanted no service or memorial. If you wish to make a donation in his name, please do so to your local grade school. Dave was a fundraiser for kids’ supplies, books, and extra teachers for Art and Gym, with his motorcycle club. Roger Joseph Herman passed away in his home on April 28, 2025 in Barrington, Illinois. He was 81.Born in Chicago in 1943, Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Rita and Harold, as well as his sister Judy. He is survived by his amazing wife Nancy, his brother Joseph, his son John (wife Alina) and daughter Laura (husband Patrick). He had two grandchildren, Jolina and Adam.

Roger was a hard-working, stoic man who will be missed dearly. Early in his life, he worked as a butcher, which would later be useful in his love for pheasant hunting. He was skilled mechanically, and once worked on the very first four-motor dragster. Six years into his long career at the phone company, he was drafted into the army, where he won an award as a sharpshooter. While there, he was placed into the communications arm of the army and spent time in Thailand building telephone infrastructure. After leaving the army he found a love for boating, snowmobiling, riding his Harley, and dirt bike (thanks for the best childhood a kid could ask for). He also loved skiing, golfing, fishing, and as mentioned before, pheasant hunting.  He will be missed by many.

After 39 years of service, the guys at the telephone company brought him a dozen chocolate glazed donuts to his retirement party because they were his go-to dessert (apparently and unbeknownst to Nancy, John, or Laurie). So this last chocolate glazed is to you Dad, rest in peace.

Sean Kyle Walsh, It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Sean, who left us unexpectedly on April 6, 2025, at the age of 28. Born on July 9, 1996, Sean was a beloved son, brother, and friend, whose life touched the hearts of many.

Sean’s intelligence, generous and caring spirit, and polite manner helped him make friends easily. He loved animals, especially the family cats. He had a passion for food. Some of his favorites were macaroni and cheese, ice cream, and chocolate chip cookies. Sean loved music, enjoyed bike riding, and often spent his weekends watching movies and videos and hanging out with friends. Sean’s wit, sense of humor and knack of pranking others carry memories his loved ones remember fondly. Sean was a talented carpenter and enjoyed adventure. 

Sean was a son to Dawn Kirchhoff and Ted Walsh, and a brother to Ryan and Mark Walsh (Shannon) and his extended family.

John William Scott, 58 of Highwood, Illinois, died suddenly of natural causes in his home on March 18th, 2025. He was born on July 15th, 1966 in St. Benoit-La-Forte, France at US Army Chinon Hospital to John Edward Scott and Lynne Alphonsine Scott. John grew up with his three siblings living the worldwide adventure of an Army family. The second child of four, he and his older sister Linda, younger brother Ted, and younger sister Nancy had each other as they switched through a myriad of different schools as a result of their father’s relocation to various duty stations. Their last move was to Fort Sheridan, where he attended Northwood Junior High and later Highland Park High School. John worked many years at Pierantoni’s in Highwood. He worked for 20 years for Signs Now in Highland Park, and most recently as the Production Manager at IC Signs and Graphics for the past 9 years. John had a wealth of knowledge of Highwood and Highland Park’s history and had many friends in the community. He was an avid collector of many things and had many hobbies. He enjoyed metal detecting and found many “treasures and artifacts” over the years when he’d do so. He was an avid cyclist and loved to ride his E-Bike. He loved music, playing oldies for people in the car- whether they wanted to hear them or not- on his trips to see family in Iowa and Michigan. John also enjoyed fishing and cherished the memories he made when camping and fishing in the Pacific Northwest with his best friend Paul Coorlin. He also enjoyed debating politics with friends and family, always doing so with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He loved conspiracy theories and discussing the obscure. John is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and an infant nephew, Robert Scott. Left to cherish John’s memory are his sister Linda (Jim) Medlang of Northwood, IA, his brother Theodore Scott of Antioch, IL, and his sister Nancy (Mark) Schucart of Gurnee, IL, four nieces Jessica (Scott) Butler, Sonya Medlang, and Nicole Scott, and Jane Schucart, two nephews, James William Medlang and Thomas Scott, his uncle and aunt, Mike and Kathy Scott of Bloomfield Hills, MI, many cousins in California, France, and Michigan, and five great nieces and nephews, and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John Joseph Valverde, "JJV", passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025 at the age of 96.  He was born on December 24,1928 in Maturin, Venezuela while his parents were vacationing.  The family returned to the States shortly after his birth. John was raised in New York City where he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School before graduating from Commerce High School in 1946. After graduation, John moved to Venezuela to help establish a family business, which grew into a great success. In 1951, John was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with honor during the Korean War until 1953. Upon his return to New York City, he met the love of his life, Louise Hazen. They were married at the "Little Church Around the Corner" in Manhattan on December 22, 1956.

John embarked on a successful career in finance, beginning as Treasurer at Dancer Fitzgerald, an esteemed advertising firm where he was among the original "Mad Men" of Madison Avenue. He and Louise built a beautiful life together, raising their four children—Katherine, Thomas, and twins Elizabeth and Virginia—in Chappaqua, NY. In 1973, the family relocated to Barrington, IL, where John continued his career as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Partner at Tatham-Laird & Kudner, a Chicago advertising agency.  Their years in Barrington were filled with cherished friendships, golf, tennis, family activities, and lively gatherings, especially his golf group, The Panzers- where lifelong friendships were made and too many fun stories to tell.

At the age of 60, John retired, and he and Louise moved to Ocala, Florida, where they embraced a new chapter of life. He made wonderful friends, enjoyed countless rounds of golf—proudly shooting his age four times—and remained a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. John was known for his boundless spirit, zest for life and tenacious can-do attitude.  His lifelong motto of "mind over matter" served him well in his personal life and his successful business career.

John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise; his parents, Librado and Ramona; his brothers, Joe (Lucy) and Hector (Theresa) and his sister, Mary (Luigi). He will be deeply missed by his children, Katherine Greenberg (Harvey), Tom Valverde (Kelly), Liz Desmond (Bob), and Virginia Kinker (Todd). He is lovingly remembered by his ten grandchildren, Ashley, Sara, Mark, Madeline, Johnny, Matthew, Michael, Maggie, Clay, Robby, and five great-grandchildren. 

We will always remember him with a smile on his face, twinkle in his eye, and a good glass of scotch in his hand.    A celebration of life will be held on March 2, 2025 for immediate family.

Jan Berghorst, 89 of Downers Grove, Illinois died peacefully surrounded by family on February 9, 2025.  She was born Janet Rose Drennan, on June 23, 1935, in Okemos, Michigan. She came from a multi-generational musical family, and music was a huge part of her life as a music educator, choral conductor, and church choir vocalist.  Jan received a Bachelor’s degree in music education and a Masters degree in choral conducting from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she lived for many years and raised her children.  Throughout her life, Jan was very involved with volunteer work and Mission work with her churches. She moved to Downers Grove, Illinois in 2019 to be closer to family. She was an avid walker and loved spending time with her family and friends. Jan loved being near the lake, and her favorite place was Crystal Lake in Frankfurt, Michigan.  She was preceded in death by her Mother, Edith Vliek, her Father, Harry G. “Red” Drennan, her brother, Ed Drennan, and nephew Randy Drennan.  She is survived by her three children Marti (Rob), Jodi, and John (Nora), her five grandchildren Shelby, Justin, D, Jackson, and Max, and her niece Leslee and nephews Brad and Jeff.  Jan will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Fred Roland Conradt

The family of Fred Roland Conradt of Bensenville is saddened to announce his passing on February 4th at the age of 75 years.

Fred was born in Germany to Hans and Hilda Conradt on December 12, 1949. Eldest brother to Christa Conradt and Linda Maher. 

Fred enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, wood working and painting. Fred was a craftsman, and his career was dedicated to the fiberglass industry.  

On March 27th, 1981 Fred married the love of his life Ruth. Was a loving father of Shannon and husband David; Jackie and fiancée Donald; and Jeff and fiancée Kelly to Freds eldest daughter Cynthia. Caring and devoted grandfather to Katlyn and Brett Zielinski and Savannah Conradt. 

Celebration of life will be the first weekend of April 2025, details to come.

Brian William Rossmann, 61, of McHenry, passed away in Park Ridge on Friday, January 30th, 2025, after a long illness. He was born April 2nd, 1963, to William and Sandra Rossmann. He grew up in McHenry and graduated from McHenry High School in 1981. Afterwards he attended McHenry County College and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. 

Brian worked as a mechanic and semi-truck driver for TC Transportation in Crystal Lake. He loved books, he was an avid learner. He enjoyed technology, movies, and bike riding. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. 

He is survived by his sister, Kelly (Wayne) Braun, and numerous other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Rossmann; his mother, Sandra Rossmann; and his brother Kevin Rossmann.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Huntington’s Disease Foundation.
